Girls Volleyball

Volleyball is a long-time tradition at Crosspoint, having started shortly after the school's opening in the early 90s.  Our first priority for ourselves as coaches, and for the attitude and approach for all the girls, is to always do all things to bring honor and glory to God and then to be a good witness in all that we say and do. We see playing on a school sports team not only about developing one's physical abilities, but also very much about building emotional and spiritual characteristics that will benefit our girls throughout their entire lifetimes.

Boys Soccer

Soccer is a long-standing sport at Crosspoint, which started in the fall of 1992. Back then, we had to use fifth graders and girls to fill our boys roster! Today, our maturing team has seen a significant improvement in the tight bond the players have developed, as well as in the strength of their walk as young Christian men. It has been incredible to see significant improvement and growth of the soccer program over the years, and we are looking forward to continuing that growth in the years to come.

Boys Basketball

I am looking forward to what will be accomplished for the 2016-17 season! After finishing 19-6 last year, coming in second in the MAC conference tournament, and winning the class 3A title in Joplin, expectations are extremely high, especially since we lost only one player to graduation. However the boys are up for the challenge, and we aim to stay focused for the entire season. We have a tough conference, but with each game we will strive to be better and better!

Scott Weldy - Head Basketball Coach
"I love the game of basketball and it has been my favorite sport since I first began playing organized basketball in the 3rd grade at the boys club in Decatur, Alabama. My playing career ended as a four-year letter winner at Tennessee Temple, where I was co-captain my junior and senior years. I have been blessed to have had many great coaches and am glad that I can pass on the training to the next generation of basketball players. The beauty of being a coach, especially at a Christian school, is that many of the lessons taught on the court can be applied to life off the court. My prayer is that each player will understand that the Lord wants their very best, whether it's on or off the court."

Erik Howard- Assistant Basketball Coach
Erik Howard joined Crosspoint's coaching staff in 2012. He is a graduate of Evangel University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in physical education with a concentration in middle school math. Coach Howard earned a scholarship to run cross country at Evangel during the 2006-2007 school year. Before coming to Crosspoint, Howard was Assistant Men's Softball Coach for Evangel Temple's men's slow-pitch team from 2007-2011. When asked why he coaches, he responds, "I coach because I really enjoy seeing students play the games that I love, watching them improve in different skill areas, and seeing them grow together. Sports have always been a huge part of my life and I am glad and blessed that I get to be around it all."

2015 & 2016 State Champions, non-musical division
2017 State Champions, musical division

Crosspoint's first cheerleading squad started with only a few girls in high school. Today the squad has grown to a full team of enthusiastic girls spanning grades 7-12. The goal for Crosspoint cheerleading is to develop the fundamentals of cheering while adding elements of stunt routines and dance. Crosspoint cheerleaders participate in the MCSAA State Tournament every year in Joplin, where they have won multiple awards. Most recently, the 2016-2017 squad took first place in the musical division at the State Tournament. Boys Baseball

Baseball was added to Crosspoint in the 2012 school year. That inaugural year, we won one game and ended with a 1-11 record. It was truly a great milestone at Crosspoint to begin a baseball program and be able to field a baseball squad. These athletes work very hard drilling in preparation for games. They sweat, endure pain, receive criticism, and are praised on a job well done. They experience defeat and, at times, victory. They laugh and, at times, cry. They learn what it means to be part of a team and that they must rely on one another to succeed. They are learning what life will be like, and what their walk will be like as Christians -- depending on each other and our Heavenly Father.

Girls Soccer

After last year's success, we are looking forward to an exciting season. We have some young and upcoming stars that are only going to get better with every mini camp, practice, and game. We are striving to be better coaches. We finished 7-5 with three very close losses that could have gone either way. Our goal is a State Championship! The girls are learning what commitment and what a team really means: whether you're a starter or sub, everyone is important in our team dynamics and to us. We are family. They are learning that competing is often like a real job, except your reward is the Championship Trophy. We also honor God in our work and give Him all the glory whether we win or lose.

Coach Young says individual athletes are showing improvement in their events as they ready for the new season.
